PostSubject: New Techie Tidbits   New Techie Tidbits EmptyFri Jun 24, 2011 11:56 am

Secure text notes - This free application allows you to essentially write and email a virtual post-it note. You can write the note on the on-line post-it note, send the link through email or twitter to the recipient, and it is deleted after the recipient reads the note. Additionally, it is possible to make the note password protected if it is confidential and you may also attach documents to the post-it note. i am constantly leaving post-it note messages on my supervisor's keyboard - for example, "went out for 30 minutes" or "Don't forget to remind the students of...". This way saves paper, time and goes straight to the recipient's email.

This techie tidbit could be beneficial to teachers and administrators in the following ways:
-Allows staff to leave quick notes for each other without clogging their inbox or wasting paper.
-It is a quick and simple way to leave a note confidentially.
-Saves time, resources, and is secure.

Dial2Do - This free application allows you to text, email, create reminders, or Tweet without using your hands. This application works with any phone and allows you to verbally dictate your texts or emails over the phone or listen to your emails being read to you.

This techie tidbit could be beneficial to teachers and administration in the following ways:
-Allows staff and administration to respond to emails and texts during the commute home.
-Promotes safe driving because you can keep your hands on the wheel while texting and emailing!
-Saves time so you don't have to wait to get to a computer to access emails.
-Allows for immediate responses to urgent issues, even if your hands are not available.
-Possible roadblock - be sure to get an earpiece while using this in the car so you are not using your hands to hold your phone!

Dropbox - This free application allows you to securely "drop" documents into a virtual box and open it another computer. Files saved on one computer can be accessible at other computers or phones. Additionally, if files are edited at one computer, it will be updated on the different computer as well.

This techie tidbit could be beneficial to teachers and administration in the following ways:
-Allows teachers and administration to access files at work that they have saved on their home computer.
-Allows for secure sharing of documents and presentations between teachers and students, teachers and teachers, and teachers and administration.
-Saves time because can work on files at both home and work.
-No longer necessary to carry around a flash drive.
